Ed Gonzales grew up in the north east high
plains of New Mexico, were most of his family
was involved in the beef cattle industry.  To
this day some of the family still owns and
operates the same business on the same land.

Of course he never really had an interest in
cattle, just the horses used to work them.  A
lot of the horses used were of mixed blood,
but the tried and true Quarter horses were the
always present.

At around the age of ten though Ed was
introduced to the Arabian horse, and that was
all it took.  Shortly after which the bug had
bitten and he just could not get enough of
them.

After high school Ed moved to the then Mecca
of the Arabian horse, Scottsdale Arizona.  The
chance to work with some of the best was all
around, and he took it at every opportunity.
Breaking, schooling, grooming or what ever it
took to learn.

Ed then moved on to
Pennsylvania, Mississippi,
Idaho, Kentucky and any where
a chance took him to improve
and gain skill.  Finally ending up
in Chapel Hill North Carolina,
where for a brief time he opened
up his own training center, only
to realize the horse business was
just too many games and not
enough fun.  So in 2001 he
closed it down,  and turned his
attention to another passion, his
art.
Ever since Ed has been
customizing, painting and now is
creating his own sculptures.  All
with that certain look that tells
you it was a piece from Gonzales
Studio.

Over the years Ed has been lucky
enough to get pointers from some
of the best.  Chris Nandell, Carol
Williams, Sara
Minkiewicz-Breuing, Lynn Fraley,
and others like Laurie Jo Jensen,
and Darry Jone Frank.  All
influences and all considered great
friends!!

About
the Artist
Ed had always had a passion for art, ever since he could hold a pencil he was drawing
something, usually horses.   Now his grandmother had given him a Breyer Family Arab
Stallion around the age of eight (and he still owns it today, battle scares and all).  About 4
years later he received his first issue of Just About Horses.  Well you can imagine, art and
horses all rolled into one, what a cool deal.
Today Ed lives in the
quiet community of
Fellsmere FL along with
his partner Ray.
Included in the family
are three dogs, two
birds and two Arabian
mares one half Arabian
mare and one gelding.

Besides horses and art
work Ed loves to cook
and work in the garden.
So if you are ever down
that way, stop by and
say hi!!  Who knows,
you may even get a
riding lesson or dinner
out of it!
